Social Media Specialist

Position Summary

The Social Media Specialist has daily oversight of the University’s primary social media accounts and is responsible for planning, creation, deployment, response, and measuring the effectiveness of the University’s social media presence. The position reports to the Director of Communication.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The Univesity has an enrollment of over 10,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 150,287 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Align strategies, create and deploy social campaigns in collaboration in coordination with the director of communication and director of marketing’s overall strategies.
  • Must be a team player among a highly creative team of writers, designers and photographers
  • Ability to continually engage and grow social audiences
  • Guide other departments on social media strategies and help form social media related policy
  • occasionally assist with photography and video capture of events, in collaboration with the Photography and Video Coordinator, Communication Director and Marketing director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be versed in current social media platforms and trends and have a track record of successful social media management in a similar role
  • Fully versed in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and other popular social media platforms
  • Must be able to quickly adapt to new social media and related platforms as trends shift
  • Must have excellent writing skills, ability to respond to inquiries with little or no oversight
  • Versed in Adobe Creative Cloud for producing social media content and layouts
  • Basic understanding of photography and video capture and editing for building social media content
  • Understanding of KPI’s, traffic metrics and SEO as it relates to social media efforts
Physical Requirements
    • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

 

Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, English, Creative Writing, Public Relations, Journalism or related fields.
Other majors will be considered when coupled with social-media related minors or proven post-college full-time experience in similar social media positions
 A background check will be required of the successful candidate.
